St Helen’s Church is located in the quiet village of Overton, Lancashire. The church is one of the oldest in Lancashire with parts dating back to the 12th century, with further additions and restorations taking place over the years.

It is a wonderful church to visit and very quiet, located across the River Lune, south-west of Lancaster, and very close to where the River Lune flows out into the Irish Sea.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to find as I hadn’t done any research before I set off, but I did know that a few distant family members had lived in the area. (Not the best way to plan a visit I know, and I should have had more information about what I may have found, but sometimes it can be more exciting not knowing!)
And I wasn’t disappointed, finding 3 headstones for the Townley family, what a great result. Now to add all the details to my family tree and continue with my search.

At some point in the future I will be going back to the church, so if you have anyone that you think maybe buried there please let me know and I can check them for you.
